Training as an industrial clerk usually lasts three years and is a dual programme, meaning that theoretical knowledge is taught at vocational school while the practical phases are spent working in the company.
To start training as an industrial clerk, you need at least an intermediate school leaving certificate. Those interested should also have a good knowledge of maths, German and English. Commercial thinking and an interest in economic contexts are also important prerequisites for this profession.
During the apprenticeship, the trainees pass through various departments in the company, such as Purchasing, Sales, Human Resources and Accounting, in order to familiarise themselves with a wide range of operational processes. There is also the opportunity to specialise, for example by focusing on marketing or finance and accounting.
After successfully completing their training, industrial clerks have very good career prospects, as they can be employed in almost all areas of the economy.
