The type 1170 with fine cross pole pitch combines the advantages of highly developed permanent magnet systems with the favourable switching options of a purely electric version.
Only a short current pulse is required to activate the solenoid system. After that, no more current flows. This ensures that no self-heating of the device occurs and therefore maximum precision can be achieved.
A power failure has no effect on the operational safety of the magnet. The state-of-the-art magnet system generates a strong and extremely uniform holding force over the entire clamping surface. The fine transverse pole pitch with a pole distance of 4 mm is particularly suitable for clamping workpieces in the longitudinal direction. The special arrangement of the magnetic poles offers a high level of safety against displacement forces transverse to the pole pitch for these applications.
The magnet is controlled via the proven Wagner pole-reversal control units. A gradually adjustable holding force regulation is part of the control system and ensures maximum operating convenience.
The residual magnetism in the workpiece and in the clamping plate is reduced after machining by a pole reversal process that is automatically controlled at several intervals and can be easily adapted to different workpieces. The workpieces can therefore be easily removed from the magnetic plate.
Functional principle
Electro-magnetic clamping systems essentially consist of three components:
- a solid steel base
- a copper winding
- a pole plate
The winding is moulded into the lower part and is therefore reliably protected against vibrations and moisture ingress.

In practical use, the pole plate is subject to wear. It is therefore designed in such a way that it can be reworked many times before the wear limit is reached. The pole plate can be easily replaced, which considerably increases the service life of the entire chuck.
